Lovely Enamel Flowers and Flourishes - Luminous Orange Carnelian Cabochons - Silver Gilt Filigree so Intricate it looks like Weaving - This pair of vintage Chinese gold plated sterling filigree and enamel dangle earrings is quite Sensational! Beautifully hand made, the earrings are opulent, ornate and highly detailed, with magnificent colors. The filigree teardrop plaques are each surmounted by six orange carnelian quartz cabochon stones, bezel-set in the fine wire work.

I was lucky to find two pairs of these earrings, this one and a pair with lapis stones, and listed them both this hour. The quartz stone carnelian (or cornelian) is considered auspicious in feng shui and its energizing, joyful and protective qualities are thought to be especially useful in jewelry. What really Makes these earrings is the fine wire work and the fantastic colors of the enamel combined with the carnelian cabs.

In addition to the "woven" filigree, the textural metal work includes applied beaded elements and twisted "rope" that outlines the cabs. The flower petals and swirls are beautifully shaded, in soft, but vibrant, enamel colors in multiple hues of blue and purple that harmonize well with each other and are surprisingly appealing in contrast with the orange stones. The glowing orange cabs are stunning and quite magical looking, surmounting the golden filigree. The earrings are both signed "S 925" on plaques on the backs (last photo) and on the kidney wire findings. They are in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with just expected surface dirt and light scratches.

There are the usual slight inconsistencies in execution that only add to their hand made charm. Comfortable and easy to wear, the earrings weigh 7.4 grams and measure about 1" wide with an overall drop length of about 1-3/4". They will frame your face beautifully and the dangles are so alluring with the slightest toss of your head.
