Antique Art Deco Filigree Chinese Export Gilt Silver Dragon Brooch/Pendant. Fabulous antique Art Deco filigree Chinese Export gilt sterling silver dragon brooch /pendant.
It features a dragon chasing a pearl motif. The body is made of a kind of filigree mesh construction with gold gilt trimming.
The pearl is often depicted with Chinese dragons. The pearl is sometimes thought to represent the moon. In fact, one legend has it that some dragons have become infatuated with the moon. & have gone insane trying to steal it from the sky. Other tales depict the pearl as an egg placed beneath the dragon's neck or chin.
The dragon is said to carry the egg away until it is ready to hatch. By far the most agreed upon tale is that the pearl represents the dragon's wisdom.
Measures approx: 2" inches tall X 1 3/4" inch wide. Total grams 13.463 by our scale. The dragon is in an excellent antique condition, but does have original patina on it.
It has a rollover wire c clasp that dates to late 1890's to early 1910's. There is a loop at the top for you to add your own chain & wear this brooch as a necklace.
