Dates to between 1910 to 1935, true art Deco in period and design. The eyes are Jade cabochons. The Filigree fan tail is articulated, moves from side to side.
Hallmarked Silver for Sterling silver, has been gilded, vermeil gold, see Info below. Gold Filled Chain measures 47cm. Very good antique condition, commensurate with age, could benefit with a clean. I do not clean antique pieces as some buyers prefer the aged patina.
Last few photo's are comparison pieces from the same period. There were three periods of Chinese Export Jewellery.
The first was from 1785 to 1910, the second between 1911 to 1948 (there was no Export Jewellery between 1949 and 1970) the third was between 1971 to the 1990s. One particular style of the earlier jewellery is known as Peking Style and it was made from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It is made of silver mesh wirework decorated with precious stones and sometimes with cloisonné, and often Chinese characters. Precious stones like jade, rose quartz, amethyst, tourmaline, ruby sapphire, coral and so on were used. There were many other styles made for the Western Market, especially in the Art Deco Period, Spray Brooches, Beads, Pendants etc. Gold Vermeil whilst similar to gold plating, has some key differences that make it distinctive. Vermeil is a technique originating in the 19th century, where gold was applied to sterling silver, Gold vermeil is also made through the gold plating technique but requires a thicker layer of gold. In this case, the gold layer must contain at least 5 microns. This item is in the category "Jewellery & Watches\Vintage & Antique Jewellery\Necklaces & Pendants".
